The Art of Gallery Hopping
Thursdays are for gallery hopping in the heart of New York`s Fine Arts District, Chelsea. Every week, a variation of galleries throw parties for their new art exhibitions. Have some wine, enjoy the inspiring atmosphere, and make a night out of it!
Although many galleries close at 6PM on Thursdays, it`s worth showing up early to see other current exhibitions. An exhibition that opened last Thursday, 11.02.17, is the “Festival of Life” by the colorful artist Yayoi Kusama at the David Zwirner Gallery. Don`t miss out on this polka-dotted experience! Taglialatella Galleries and Unix Gallery are always worth a visit!
To plan your gallery opening visits, download the Chelsea Gallery Map app. Note that not all galleries coordinate their openings with gallery-platform, so make sure to follow your favorite galleries in social media to be in the know.
Prime time for gallery openings is typically between 6.00-8.30 PM, so the night will still be young. The weekend is just around the corner, and Chelsea has plenty of bars worth visiting on a Thursday. Three personal recommendations are The Bar at The Highline Hotel, Tipsy Parson and the speak easy, Bathtub Gin. For a complete cultural night, visit Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel. The last act starts at 8 PM.
If you enjoy being surrounded by artsy environments, consider galleries as venues for future events. Art galleries create a special setting for social gatherings, a photo shoots, and even retail pop-ups. Why?
Firstly, the ecstatic appearance is very appealing! Secondly, many galleries fall under the raw space category, characterized by flexible set-ups and the opportunity to create a personal touch. The majority of the venues also offers rent by the hour. Furthermore, the environment will be characterized by the current exhibition, providing a unique backdrop for your event. You may also decorate the space based on the combination of the current event and character of the occasion. And lastly, they're very Instagram-friendly! Say Cheese!
The following are some of our gallery-turned-event space recommendations:
Van Der Plas Gallery: This gallery is home to street or contemporary artists for over 40 years, showcasing art that encompasses creative spirit. The gallery can also be transformed to a unique setting for your special event.
