Eventum Finally Acquires Eventum.com!
Eventum, Inc. was founded beginning of this year by CEO Jin Ha. In search of a new business developer, Jin recruits Florian Meyer, to lead the U.S. market entry. Eventum NY is now a team of 5, and with months of hard work and long hours, the Eventum website now has over 200 venues all over NY. All the event spaces were listed under Eventum.us. Initially, the goal was to acquire the .com domain from the get-go, but the process took months of negotiation and seemed impossible to attain.
The Art of the Deal
At first, the initial price for acquiring the .com domain was in the 6 figures. From there, Jin took initiative to understand the former domain holder of Eventum.com. Turns out, the original holder is also in the events industry. After months of negotiation and getting to know one another, the original domain holder expressed his liking of Jin’s Eventum and team. According to Jin, “The concept of a marketplace for event spaces may not be as original, but with a much simpler approach like ours, the deal to acquire .com became more aligned to our scope”.
To be or Not to be…Stubborn
An entrepreneur can have doubts, but they should be stubborn enough to chase after impossible goals. Jin expressed that obtaining the .com domain didn’t seem very plausible at first, but having a positive attitude and being persistent can be very helpful in such situations. Instead of back and forth exchanges, Jin took time to learn what the other party values, while asking the right questions.
What Acquiring .com Means for Eventum
Acquiring .com is a milestone for the Norwegian based company. Start-ups would agree that .com have many perks such as its familiarity for customers/users or their comfort of being on .com site rather than .co or inc. Google also gives preferences to .com in search results, as the largest most trusted sites online are on .com. To Jin and his team, “it feels like we are an international company, and we can expand to other countries without having to go through multiple process if we had our old domain”.
